Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has earned her the title of one of the most popular American actors. Her father was a renowned playwright, but she was raised as an only child by her single-mother and nurse. Through the summer months when she was with her father, Linney developed a passion for theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially in Brown University then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway shortly after her graduation, she debuted on film in just two years, and then on television within a year. Since then she has been in many films, TV plays and stage productions. In her professional career, she has won numerous awards including the two Golden Globe Awards. Yet, despite all the awards she has received the theatre is still her primary passion and she is still appearing on screen and on stage.
